The problem
A senior facilities manager at the provider described the change as "removing the headache from temperature monitoring entirely". The headache was real. Medicines delivered to patients at home lose their value if they leave their labelled range, and the provider has to prove they didn't.
Its older wireless system produced too many alarms. Some sensors were poorly placed, and a single event could send dozens of separate alerts. The team spent its time reacting to noise rather than genuine risks, and compliance work felt like an uphill battle.
What we did
JTF moved the provider's monitoring onto the Sematics platform and worked with its quality teams to change how alarms were handled, not just the hardware.
- Sensor positions reviewed so each one reads the real storage conditions of the medicines and vaccines.
- Alarm thresholds set to each product's requirements, so alerts mean something.
- Related alerts grouped into one incident, so a single event is one job for one person.
- Hands-on training across departments, with root cause analysis and CAPA built into daily work.
The result
"We can now focus on what matters most, our clients, with full confidence that our systems are accurate, compliant, and under control." (Senior Facilities Manager)
Temperature incidents fell by 85%, with far fewer false alarms. Audits became quicker to prepare, because reports and quality records are already in the system.
The provider has since extended the same monitoring to the mobile refrigeration units its home delivery nurses use, so medicines are watched in transit as well as in storage.
